early shots on medium format

My first shots on my Mamiya 645 were some of the most satisfying in terms of the feeling.

There is something to be said about the way it feels capturing an image on 120 film versus on a 35mm camera. Hulking around the big Mamiya 645 body, the film loading process, and the slap of the shutter in your hands as the shot goes off is an entirely giddy experience. I happened to do quite a bit of YouTube research (more so daydreaming about owning my own) before diving into eBay to purchase my first medium-format camera and as expensive as that purchase was, I don’t regret it one bit.

The Mamiya 645 1000S provides me with an negative that is 6 cm x 4.5 cm large. In comparison, my 35mm cameras offer me a 24mm x 36mm negative that while still capturing beautiful photos, cannot compete with the resolution I can achieve with the Mamiya. I can capture amazing detail and sharpness with the medium-format negative, which can lead to great printing opportunities if I plan on framing in the future.
